FoS Summer 2016

Friends of Squirrels were busy this term organising the Brazilian themed Summer Fair. The Fair was a great success, extremely well attended by both current and future Squirrels families.

It was great to see many spectators enjoying the tennis finals, gymnastics display, chess finals and choir performance.  The boys tried their luck on the various games and inflatables on offer, as well as making the most of the water pistols available on the pocket money stall to soak poor Mr. Appleby!  There was a lovely atmosphere, with all the parents, boys, teachers and sports staff mingling and having fun together.  Friends of Squirrels are very grateful to all those who helped to make this event a success – the committee, the staff, the parents who organised and helped on stalls, and in particular our wonderful caretaker Mr. Wright whose help was invaluable on the day.  We are delighted to announce that the fair raised £3,605.

FOS have been ensuring this term that the funds we have raised are put to good use.  We funded the recent Mosaic workshop, which was very popular with the boys and produced a fantastic piece of art, which will no doubt be enjoyed for many years to come.  The finished product can be viewed on the far wall in the playground, please do go and take a look.  We have approved the purchase of some Meccano, which will be used in the new after school club being introduced in the Autumn term.  We funded the new giant chess set pieces which you may have seen in use on the playground chess board.  We have also approved a request for benches, wall games and an outdoor blackboard, which will be used to create a quiet area in the orchard garden beside the hall.  We have also agreed to fund further playground improvements - over the summer, the mural at the back of the playground will be taken down as it is in disrepair, the boarding will be renovated and new playground targets and games will be put up.  Finally, we have also agreed to fund educational apps for the new school iPads, and basketball hoops which were requested by the school council.

We look forward to a busy autumn term with our annual Quiz night and AGM taking place on Friday 7th October, and our Christmas Fair on Saturday 3rd December.  We are also already busy planning a Squirrels Ball for Saturday 18th March 2017 – please save the date!

We hope that all parents can see that the work that we do to raise money here at WCPS really does make a difference to the school, and we would love to encourage anyone who is interested in joining our committee to get in touch with us via the school office and come along to our next meeting.
