Friends of Squirrels’ Spring

What was your Book Week highlight? Mrs Buck moonlighting as Paddington or the teachers revealing their favourite books?

Ours was of course the Book Week Festival, which Friends of Squirrels hosted, with its pre-loved book sale (run with help from the school council), bookmark crafting and ‘Traditional Tales’ sweetie stall.  We were also delighted to fund a visit from children’s author Ann Bryant to inspire the boys with some artful storytelling.

Friends of Squirrels has been able to fund some fantastic activities this term including our annual French Day, a Great Fire of London workshop and ‘Chemical Reactions’ Science Day (with scientific slime-making) as well as funding the new look ‘Enchanted Forest’ school library. 10% of all our fundraising activity is also contributed to our chosen charity for the year, First Touch, supporting St George’s neonatal unit.

We also aim to foster a friendly school community: in February Friends of Squirrels hosted refreshments for the Getting to Know You days (for prospective students and their parents) and in March arranged a coffee morning and second-hand uniform sale for current parents and new parents joining us in September.

We’re now looking beyond the recent snow to the summer term ahead and our fair on Saturday 23rd June. Be sure to put the date in your diary – we’ll be celebrating the World Cup and bidding farewell to our year two boys with all the usual fun and entertainment!

If you have considered joining Friends of Squirrels, or would like to know more about what we do, please do make contact via the school office. A new term is a great reason to get involved and we’d love to hear from you.
