Pirate Book Week

In March we set sail on a jolly boat to celebrate World Book Day with a week of special activities and swashbuckling events.

Throughout the week the whole school took part in many reading activities, such as the Great Book Swap.  The boys were delighted to exchange books and take their ‘new’ book home.

A true highlight of the week was the visit by the talented Simon Murray.  He presented an inspiring and entertaining assembly and then taught each class an illustration for storytelling workshop.  We have all been impressed by the boys’ Icky Doo Dah illustrations and Year 1 and 2 have created some mischievous story ideas for Icky’s next adventure!  Our grateful thanks go to the Friends of Squirrels Committee for funding this very special event.

The boys and staff looked like a truly motley crew for our grand finale, the Shiver Me Timbers Dress-Up Day.  This raised £190 for Book Aid International.

Congratulations to the winners of the Reading Riddles and the poster competitions.

The winners of the ‘I wish I could read a book to…’ competition are:
