Year 1 and 2 Mathematics Workshops

On the 25th and 26th September, Maths Workshops were held for the parents of Year 1 and 2 pupils. These sessions were led by Mrs Dodd and Mrs Jenkins, who explained how mathematics is taught at WCPS, from problem solving to partitioning.

Parents were given the opportunity to view (and play with) the resources typically used in Maths lessons at school, such as hundred squares, number lines, place value cards and counting apparatus.

We discussed the vast vocabulary involved when interpreting mathematical problems and the strategies for calculation were explained. Parents had the chance to try out some examples for themselves on whiteboards and we played some of the games we use in class to learn our number facts.

If any parents were unable to attend the workshop and would like a copy of the handouts that were provided, please contact the School Office. Please see the school calendar for the date our upcoming Maths Workshop for Reception Parents.
