We began life in 1919 as a preparatory school for King's College School and other public schools, for the sons of the local gentry in the neighbourhood of Wimbledon Village. The premises were originally in the High Street, from where we moved to Homefield Road. Miss Holland, a Froebel-trained teacher, took over as Head in 1922 and built a fine reputation for 'The Squirrels' until her death in 1950. Her assistant, Mrs NMV Turner, then assumed responsibility for running the school.
In 1957, we were lucky enough to acquire the fine building on the Ridgway, opposite King's, which we still occupy.
After Nora Turner’s death, in 1979, her sons Michael and Barry became successive Headmasters and later a family Trust was formed. In June 2006 the Trust agreed to sell the school to The Corporation of KCS thus ensuring the future security of Squirrels. The Current Headmaster, Neil J Worsey BA, was appointed in 2003 having taught at the school since 1989. |
